IN-PERSON Ground Schools

Hot-Air Balloon Pilot Ground SchoolClasses are conducted over a weekend, starting Friday evening. The typical schedule is:

  • Friday: 5 PM – 9 PM
  • Saturday: 7 AM – 5 PM
  • Sunday: 7 AM – 5 PM

Each section is in a classroom setting with opportunities to ask questions throughout the sessions. Instructors are also available for additional support during breaks and at lunch, if needed.

Instructors check for understanding throughout the course, but there are no quizzes, tests, or exit exams required to complete the school.

On Sunday afternoon, participants will receive an endorsement from the proctor in the form of a logbook sticker and a certificate. These endorsements are valid for 60 days which can be presented at the test facility.

  • Private Pilot Ground School: Designed for individuals pursuing a private pilot certificate or crew members wanting to deepen their understanding of ballooning from a pilot’s perspective.
  • Commercial Pilot Ground School: Tailored for those working toward a commercial pilot certificate.
